Millions of persons with disabilities in Nigeria live in poverty
STARSS is an acronym for Strengthening Toilet Access for Rural Special Schools. It’s a special WASH in school project that seeks to improve the hygiene and education of children with disabilities in Plateau state through hygiene education and provision of accessible WASH facilities. So far 20 School toilets have been constructed at school for the Blind Children Gindiri Plateau state while a small town water scheme has been constructed at the same school.
Learning together is an inclusive education strengthening project that seeks to improve educational outcomes for children with disabilities in Plateau State through advocating for more opportunities for children with disabilities to attend mainstream local primary schools in an inclusive environment
The inclusive Women’s Group is a self-care support group for women with disabilities drawn from conflict prone communities in Plateau state. The group provides courage, resources and skills for women with disabilities affected by violent conflicts to rebuild their lives back through opportunities for wealth creation in agriculture
Persons with disabilities like other humans deserve to fulfill their dreams
In Nigeria like most developing nations, Persons with disabilities are seen as less humans, objects of pity in need of social protection. These negative attitudes towards persons with disabilities affects their confidence as they struggle to live fulfilled lives.
